Insurance Restoration Contractor

Hopefully you are reading this for information and not because you have just had a fire. A loss from a fire is one of the worst home losses a owner can have happen. Most people only think of the damage caused by the fire itself, but the loss from water and smoke damage sometimes ends up being more destructive then the burning from the fire.

If you experience a loss please take a moment to breathe, minus getting yourself and your family into a temporary place to stay, the only other thing that can be done and should be is securing the property. Many service companies can do this but be careful to not sign anything other then to have the property secured. Most will try to get you to sign off for them to do the work right away and you are in no position to make that decision after such an event in your life. Plus nothing is going to happen right away anyways……

It is our opinion that work other then demo shouldn’t take place till you the homeowner is satisfied with quote and scope of work. The best way to do this is to research contractors and work with one to help get a second opinion on the insurance adjusters bid. Once you get a bid from your contractor you can compare it with the insurance bid and see which one covers all the items you will need to be replaced. Contractors can offer opinion’s but can not act as a public adjuster. This is a topic for a different blog post.

We only suggest that work not begin till this number is agreed to for one simple reason, making sure you get the same quality of finished product that you had pre fire. Also content worksheet for personal items can begin but these tend to take time to remember all you items. If you are a planner or want to take the extra step video record every room in your house and but it in a fireproof safe or on the web.

Once you are in agreement work can begin on your home or business. Be patient even though it may feel like you need to get it all done right away, getting it right is worth the wait versus cheap and poorly done.
